Location: Sheraton Greensboro Hotel at Four Seasons/Joseph S. Koury Convention Center
Cost: $165. Online registration will close July 8. Payment must be mailed by July 9 in order to be processed. Some sessions require additional payment. No credit card payments can be accepted.

- Automotive Service Technology
Given changes to the new Standard Course of Study, all Automotive courses will use Today’s Class for instruction, curriculum, and assessments including the course post-assessment. To prepare for these changes, Today’s Class will be providing a hands-on, all day workshop on the new to-be released program website. This workshop will include all aspects of Today’s Class needed by the teacher.
- NCCER Training Classes
Weatherization, Solar Systems, NCCER ANR Training, NCCER ATEF Certification Training, NCCER Record Keeping, Yearly Reports, and Audits Training
- Network Engineering
Training will be held at the Weaver Academy in Greensboro. These workshops will be geared to help the Networking CISCO teachers gain better knowledge and skills associated with the Cisco Networking Academy courses.
- Computer Engineering
ExplorNet will present workshops to assist the teacher in preparing students to better master the course objectives aligned to the CompTIA A+ exams. Alan Rowland- CompTIA, will present changes to the E2C program, Exam updates, and be available for any questions.
- Cosmetology
Workshops are being planned to align with North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art continuing education requirements.
- Digital Media and TV Programming and Broadcasting
Adobe experts will present a one-day workshop for teachers on features, techniques, and applications for use in the classroom. Adobe Acrobat Pro is a great tool for electronic portfolios (e-Portfolios). You will need to bring your own laptop or you will have to look on as others do the activities. Trial Software will be provided in the class for installation.
- Drafting
Applied software will put on hands-on workshops that will focus on Architectural Drafting and Engineering Drafting objectives. This is a hands-on workshop. Teachers must bring their own laptops with software already installed. There will be a few spares, but those who do not bring their own laptops may have to share.
- Electronics
NCDPI provides statewide ETA-I memberships for all teachers. ETA-I is the largest professional organization for Electronic Technicians in the country and is highly recognized by post-secondary institutions and industry. All NC Electronics curriculum is aligned to ETA-I standards. Field Testing will continue for 2011-2012. Workshops will be provided using the results of the 2010-2011 field tests to assist teachers with improving student performance.
- Printing Graphics
PICA, Post-Secondary, Industry, and NCDPI have formed a new NC Printing Graphics Consortium to provide postassessments, professional development, and program area strategic planning. Representatives will present the future of Printing Graphics in North Carolina. A draft of the new strategic plan and overviews of the new blueprint requirements will be presented along with various of items of interest.
- Welding Technology
Using the Mobile Welding Unit from Pitt Community College and in conjunction with Lincoln Electric, welding teachers will have the opportunities to learn and update their skills with hands-on activities in a real environment.
- Metals Manufacturing Technology
Using the Mobile Machining Unit from Lenoir Community College, metals teachers will have the opportunities to learn and update their skills with hands-on activities in a real environment.
Thursday
- Best Practices in Your Program Area
Individual workshops will be provided for each major program area and will offer best practices and professional development specific to their program needs.
- Any Excuse for Math
Math is an integral part of all T&I programs. This workshop will focus on identifying math concepts already integrated into each program area, and will provide strategies for classroom instruction. Group work by program area will allow collaboration and strategic development.
- Finding and Using On-line Resources
T&I courses today are moving more towards blended instructional strategies utilizing a mixture of traditional instruction with on-line instruction. Teachers must develop pedagogical approaches that differ from current strategies to be successful. In addition, professional learning communities have been created for all program areas and will be discussed. How to find free resources to use in the classroom will also be addressed.
Preconferences
- Automotive Service Technology at GTCC, $50
Monday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Tuesday, 8 a.m. - 12 noon
GTCC Jamestown Campus
This is part of the required 20 hours of CEU needed to meet NATEF yearly instructor requirement. This preconference will focus on updates from Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Toyota. Additionally, Snap-On Tools among others will present workshops to assist teachers in meeting NATEF and NCDPI requirements. Pre-registration is required. - NCCER Craft Instructor Training Classes, $110
Monday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Tuesday. 8 a.m. - 12 noon, and Wednesday, 8 a.m. - 12 noon
NCCER craft instructor training certification program is required for all North Carolina Public High School construction teachers effective August 2010. This certification class meets the North Carolina State Board of Education policy approved June 2009. Pre-registration is required. Participants must register during the online conference registration process.
- Developing and Teaching CTE Honors Courses, $100
Monday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
The Honors Course Policy requires teachers interested in offering honors CTE courses to develop and submit for approval to local administrators a portfolio of curriculum materials for each honors course. This portfolio is called the Honors Teaching Preparation Portfolio. The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the requirements and procedures for preparing the Honors Teaching Preparation Portfolio for any CTE Honors class. Join in the networking and get ready for teaching an honors course in the fall. This session is presented by Cynthia Rossi Sovich, M. Ed., CFCS, NBCT Family & Consumer Sciences/Early Childhood Education. Register through the summer conference registration system for this preconference opportunity.
- 10-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Course, $95
Monday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Tuesday, 8 a.m. - 12 noon
Teacher will receive training and certification in the 10-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Program. Topics covered will include: overview of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), fall protection, basic electrical, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment ladders, scaffolding, hand and power tools, and other safety considerations. This does meet part of the 40-hour New Teacher Induction Program requirements. Pre-registration is required. Participants must register during the online conference registration process.
- SkillsUSA Advisor Bootcamp, No fee
Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 12 noon
This workshop will provide SkillsUSA advisors and T&I teachers with step by step instructions and guidance for starting and managing a chapter. This includes: setting up a SkillsUSA account, registering students for membership, registering for conferences, and using free resources that are available to all advisors. There is no fee and preregistration is not required.
- NCCER Green Module Instructor Certification Class and Exam Certification, No fee
Wednesday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
NCCER craft instructors must successfully pass the Green Assessment to be certified and register students for this module. There is one full day covering the module followed by the module test. After completing the module test, teachers will then schedule and complete the assessment test online. Pre-registration is required. Participants must register during the online conference registration process.
