Career and Technical Education Summer Conference 2011
Business and Information Technology Education
Date: July 26-28, 2011 (Preconferences available July 24-26)
Location: Sheraton Greensboro Hotel at Four Seasons/Joseph S. Koury Convention Center
Cost: $165. Online registration will close July 8. Payment must be mailed by July 9 in order to be processed. Some sessions require additional payment. No credit card payments can be accepted.
Program Highlights
Summer Conference for Business and Information Technology educators is always a time of renewal, update, and networking. An exciting agenda has been planned for you with this in mind. This conference will give you an opportunity to update your skills and network with other BITE teachers across the state.
DPI requests all BITE teachers bring wireless-enabled laptops to all sessions.

Certiport will be onsite the entire week conducting Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Exams during lunch and in the evening. Contact Ryan Hamilton (rhamilton@certiport.com) to sign up for a test session.
Microsoft staff will provide onsite office hours throughout the conference to answer specific MSITA questions.
LAB SESSIONS: Participants may choose one lab sessions during the registration process. Registration for the lab sessions is not final until payment is received.
Preconferences
- New Teacher Training: 40-Hour Induction, Module 4, $150
Sunday, 3-7 p.m., and Monday, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Module 4 of the 40-hour new teacher training will be offered as a pre-conference session at summer conference. Fee includes training materials, lunch, and breaks. You must register for this session through the conference registration site. - Multimedia and Webpage Design: Difficult Objectives to Teach! $150
Monday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
QTL is offering a preconference session on the five most difficult objectives to teach in Multimedia and Webpage Design. Sessions will include hands-on activities and strategies for success. Fee includes lunch and breaks. You must register for this session through the conference registration site. - Developing and Teaching CTE Honors Courses, $100
Monday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
The Honors Course Policy requires teachers interested in offering honors CTE courses to develop and submit for approval to local administrators a portfolio of curriculum materials for each honors course. This portfolio is called the Honors Teaching Preparation Portfolio. The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the requirements and procedures for preparing the Honors Teaching Preparation Portfolio for any CTE Honors class. Join in the networking and get ready for teaching an honors course in the fall. This session is presented by Cynthia Rossi Sovich, M. Ed., CFCS, NBCT Family & Consumer Sciences/Early Childhood Education. Register through the summer conference registration system for this preconference opportunity. - MSITA: Getting Started, Cost: $20
Tuesday, 8-10 a.m. or 10 a.m.-12 noon
Microsoft technicians will be offering two getting started sessions for teachers starting to teach MSITA courses in the fall. Sessions will include hands-on experiences with getting started in the e-learning environment. This is not a refresher course for current teachers. Refresher courses will be offered during summer conference for current teachers. You must register for this session through the conference registration site. - Certiport Testing, No fee
Tuesday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.; Wednesday, 12 noon-1 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.; Thursday, 12 noon-1 p.m. and 3-6 p.m.
Certiport will be onsite offering FREE Microsoft Office Specialist Certification testing. Participants are required to sign up prior to the event. Registration for this session is through Ryan Hamilton at Certiport. Contact Ryan directly at rhamilton@certiport.com
